Brother Allegedly Kills Sibling, Burns Body to Destroy Evidence; Two Arrested

Pimpalgaon Raja, Tamsil Shahezad Khan - February 27, 2026 - A chilling case of alleged fratricide has shaken Rahud village in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, where a 35-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his elder brother and an accomplice, his body burned, and the ashes dumped in a river in an attempt to wipe out evidence. Police have registered a murder case and arrested two accused in connection with the crime.

The incident, which reportedly took place on February 25, has sent ripples of shock through the rural belt of Khamgaon taluka, with residents struggling to come to terms with the brutality of the act.

Complaint Filed After Sudden Disappearance

According to officials at Pimpalgaon Raja Police Station, the case has been registered as Crime No. 47/2026 under Sections 103(1), 238 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The complaint was lodged by Vilas Devidas Bansode (40), a farmer and Police Patil of Rahud village. In his statement, Bansode informed police that Chetan Sanjay Ingle (35) had been missing since the afternoon of February 25. As concern mounted over his unexplained absence, Bansode approached the police station and filed a formal complaint.

Acting swiftly, police initiated a search operation and began questioning family members and close associates.

Elder Brother Held After Interrogation

During the course of the investigation, suspicion fell on the victim’s elder brother, Roshan Sanjay Ingle (36), also a resident of Rahud. Police detained him for questioning. Officials said that during sustained interrogation, Roshan allegedly confessed to the crime and named Ravi Devidas Raut (36) of Mahakal Chowk, Khamgaon, as his accomplice.

According to investigators, the accused allegedly lured Chetan to an agricultural field in Rahud around 1:30 pm on February 25. There, police claim, the duo attacked him with an iron rod, repeatedly striking him on the head, resulting in his death at the spot.

In what investigators described as a calculated attempt to eliminate evidence, the accused allegedly set the body on fire in the field and later disposed of the ashes in a nearby river.

Police said the plan was uncovered following technical inputs and interrogation, leading to the arrest of both men.

Senior Officials Inspect Scene

Senior officers visited the crime scene soon after details emerged and directed the course of the investigation. The probe is being supervised by Sub-Inspector Mukhlik, who is leading efforts to reconstruct the sequence of events and establish the motive behind the alleged killing.

“Both accused are in custody, and further investigation is underway. We are examining all angles, including possible personal or financial disputes,” a police official said, adding that more details may surface in the coming days.

Fear and Outrage Grip Village

Rahud village has been gripped by fear and disbelief since news of the incident spread. Residents described the episode as unprecedented in its brutality, particularly given the close familial relationship between the accused and the victim.

Police have assured villagers that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.

Authorities say the case underscores the seriousness with which crimes under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita are being pursued, and they have urged citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.

As investigators work to determine the motive and gather further evidence, the community waits anxiously for answers in a case that has deeply scarred the quiet village of Rahud.
