Buldhana, Maharashtra: A shocking murder case that had sparked fear and outrage in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district has now taken a grim turn, with police arresting the victim’s father and brother for allegedly killing her and attempting to destroy evidence by burning the body.
The incident came to light after a partially burnt body of a young woman was discovered in the Rajura area of Jalgaon Jamod taluka in Buldhana district. The gruesome discovery had created panic and intense speculation in the surrounding villages, while police faced a major challenge in identifying the victim and unraveling the mystery behind the killing.
During the investigation, police, along with forensic experts, worked to identify the deceased. Officials later confirmed that the victim was Shivani Bapuram Kalmekar, a resident of Burhanpur district in neighboring Madhya Pradesh.
According to investigators, preliminary findings suggest that Shivani was allegedly murdered by her own father, Bapuram Kalmekar, and brother, Ajay Kalmekar. Police suspect the accused acted out of “family suspicion” related to Shivani’s personal relationships.
Investigators believe the accused later attempted to destroy evidence by setting the body on fire and abandoning it in the Rajura area. The partially charred condition of the body initially made identification difficult, significantly complicating the probe.
Police sources said forensic analysis and technical investigation played a key role in cracking the case. Following the collection of evidence and interrogation, both accused were taken into custody. Authorities have not yet disclosed all details of the motive, saying the investigation is still underway.
The case has triggered widespread anger and condemnation, with many expressing concern over crimes linked to family honour, suspicion, and violence against women. Local residents and social activists have demanded strict punishment for those responsible.
Police officials stated that further investigation is ongoing to establish the complete sequence of events and determine whether any additional individuals were involved in the crime.
